Our story
Sixteen years on Jalan Sultan Ismail
Detik Warisan began in 2009 when Encik Hafiz Othman, a watchmaker trained in Switzerland and Singapore, decided to open a workshop in his home city of Kuala Lumpur. The name — which translates roughly as "Tick of Heritage" — reflects what drew him to the craft: the idea that a watch carries time in a personal way, and that repairing one is a form of stewardship.
The early years were spent building a reputation for unhurried, transparent work. Word spread quietly among collectors and everyday watch owners alike, and the workshop grew through referrals rather than advertising. That pace suited us. It still does.
Today, Detik Warisan serves customers from across the Klang Valley and further afield. Some bring in a watch they wear daily; others arrive with something inherited, something with a story. We treat both with the same attention.
Our approach has not changed: we inspect carefully, report honestly, and work only with the owner's full understanding of what is being done. We believe this is simply the right way to look after someone else's property.

Hafiz Othman
Master Watchmaker & Founder
Trained in Singapore and Geneva, Hafiz returned to KL in 2009 to found Detik Warisan. He personally oversees every mechanical overhaul that leaves the workshop.
Nurul Rashida
Watchmaker — Quartz & Restoration
Nurul joined the workshop in 2016 and has developed a particular care for cosmetic restoration and battery services, with an eye for preserving original character.
Ahmad Zulkifli
Workshop Coordinator
Ahmad manages the flow of watches through the workshop and is the first point of contact for customers. He ensures every piece is properly logged and that owners are kept informed.

How we work
These protocols are not policies drawn up to impress — they are simply how we have always operated. They exist because they produce better outcomes for the watches in our care.
Written condition reports
Every watch receives a written assessment before work begins. You will know exactly what was found and what we propose to do.
Parts retained for inspection
Any part removed and replaced during a service is kept aside so you can examine it yourself and satisfy yourself the work was necessary.
Timing accuracy checks
After servicing, mechanical movements are tested on a timing machine across multiple positions and observed over a settling-in period before collection.
Water-resistance testing
Watches that carry water-resistance ratings are pressure-tested after seal replacement to confirm the rating has been properly restored.
Secure custody procedures
Each watch is logged on intake with a detailed description and photograph. Pieces in our care are stored securely and handled only by the assigned watchmaker.
No-pressure consultations
You are always free to decline service after receiving our assessment. We will return your watch as received, with no cost for the initial inspection.
Watch repair in Kuala Lumpur — a craft, not a counter service
The Klang Valley has no shortage of places that will change a battery or polish a case. What is harder to find is a workshop where the watchmaker takes the time to understand a movement before touching it — where the relationship between the owner and the craftsperson is built on clear communication rather than a quick transaction.
At Detik Warisan, we work on mechanical and quartz timepieces across a range of origins and ages. Our mechanical servicing follows the standards common to reputable independent horologists: full disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, inspection under magnification, lubrication with grade-specific oils, and regulated timing checks. Our quartz work is done with the same deliberateness, because even a simple battery change, done carelessly, can allow moisture into a sealed case.
Cosmetic restoration is perhaps the most personal of our services. A watch that has been worn daily for twenty years carries marks that are, in some sense, part of its character. We discuss with each owner what they would like to preserve and what they would like addressed — and we recommend only what the watch genuinely needs.
Kuala Lumpur's climate — warm, humid, and subject to sudden rain — makes water-resistance care particularly relevant. We see many watches whose original gaskets have degraded quietly over years of daily wear. A straightforward pressure check and seal renewal can make a meaningful difference to a watch's long-term condition.
